When you visit Kobe, take time also to learn how the city recovered from the 1995 Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake. If you don't have much time to visit the museum, at least come to the Memorial just steps away from Meriken Park.

The reminants of the earthquake of 1995. The people of Kobe left it as it was to make sure it won't happen again. This spurred the advant of earthquake-proof design and building. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.
