Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology
Nishi Ward, Okazaki
Before Toyota built cars, the Toyoda family built looms. This museum, in the red-brick spinning mill where the company began, tells both stories with working machines: textile looms clattering away, then the evolution of the car from hand-built prototypes to robots on an assembly line. Staff run live demonstrations throughout the day, and it is fascinating even for visitors with no interest in engineering.
Good to know
- The building is the original 1911 Toyoda spinning and weaving plant.
- Sakichi Toyoda's automatic loom funded the founding of the car company.
- It is a short walk from Nagoya Station.
